Prof. Dianzou Wang: 1934-2023

We are sorry to report that Prof. Dianzou Wang died in Beijing on October 25th at the age of 89.  He was engaged in teaching and scientific research in the field of mineral processing for many years and made pioneering contributions in mineral processing and flotation theory. He also made great contributions to biometallurgy technology and bauxite flotation desilication technology. He published more than 200 academic papers and more than 10 books and his research results won many awards.

Prof. Wang graduated from the Central South University of Mining and Metallurgy in 1961 and in 1985 was appointed president of Central South University of Technology, now Central South University.  In 1991 he was appointed dean of the Beijing Nonferrous Metals Research Institute and in 1998 vice president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, becoming executive vice president in 1999.

Prof. Wang was elected as an International member of the USA National Academy of Engineering in 1990 and in 2010 he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the International Mineral Processing Congress in Brisbane, becoming the first Chinese recipient of the award. It was the first time in the history of the IMPC that the award was to two winners, Prof. Alban Lynch and Prof. Wang.
