Day 1 at Computational Modelling '17 and farewell to a familiar figure at MEI Conferences

MEI's Jon Wills opened Computational Modelling '17 this morning, welcoming the 33 international delegates to a sunny Falmouth.  Then after a day of 12 presentations, including a keynote from Stephen Neethling of Imperial College, Jon led a 3 and a half mile walk in the evening sunshine, along the coastal path to awaiting drinks at the Quayside Inn in old Falmouth.

Dean Eastbury has become a familiar face at MEI Conferences, but this week's two MEI Conferences in Falmouth will be his last, as he retires as Elsevier Executive Publishing Manager for Minerals Engineering at the end of the month.
During my 29 years with Minerals Engineering I have worked with countless publishing managers, but Dean's seven years with the journal have been something special, and he has become a great friend of the MEI family.
So it was with great pleasure that I presented him with a souvenir album of his time with us, both professionally and socially. We wish Dean all the best in his retirement, and we are particularly pleased that he has decided to retire to his favourite part of the world- Cornwall, so we will be seeing much more of him and his partner Sharlene, and look forward to more hard hikes together on the South West Coast Path.
