Simon Meik |
It's always good to see photos of mineral processing people on the blog- familiar and new faces and faces from the past- so I thank Jon for sending the photos below from Townsville. I was particularly pleased to see my old friend
Dr. Simon Meik, Corporate Director of Processing at Dundee Precious Metals in Bulgaria. Simon and I go back a long way, to the late 1970s when he led the team from AMAX, working at Camborne School of Mines on the feasibility study for the Hemerdon tungsten mine (see
posting of 10 July 2014). He was also at that time heavyweight boxing champion of SW-England and I regularly trained (not competed!) with him in the CSM gym.
Anyway, here are Jon's photos and news of todays events at Mill Ops '14.
The second day is always a bit quieter and therefore easier to chat to people in the exhibition area. It was good to meet with the team at Kemtec Mineral Processing who specialise in the optimisation of collectors and frothers. Although this was a company I had not heard of, they informed me they had planned to attend
Flotation ’13 but had not been able to get a booth as the exhibition had sold out. Hopefully they will therefore be at
Flotation ’15 which has already sold 7 of the 24 available booths.

The conference dinner was a great occasion- spectacular setting and a humorous speaker-
Vince Sorrenti, apparently a well known Australian celebrity.
