Is the Bond Work Index still relevant?

Over 4 years ago, someone asked the question on the MEI Online Forum: are mills still designed using the long-winded Bond Test? With modern computers and models, is this test, and indeed the Bond Work Index, now obsolete?

There were a number of replies to this question, but, four years on, I wonder what the current view is on this?

  1. Until ball mills are no longer required, the Bond work index test will remain as the "premier" milling test. Interpretation of the results from the test itself is a different matter.

  2. Absolutely, it is still in use. Thanks for the references listed four years ago. We will use them to run the test in our research group
